How To Make A Birth Announcement Poster

What You Will Need:

1. A Computer
2. A Color Printer
3. Microsoft Office Word 2007 (You may use a different version but the directions might vary slightly.)
4. Paper

Here's How:

1. First you need to decide what information you would like to put on the birth announcement poster.  You don't have to put the exact same information that I used.  You can add more or use less if you like and you can even switch up the order.
Here was the format I used..

Line 1: Baby's First Name
Line 2: Baby's Middle and Last Name
Line 3: Date of Birth
Line 4: Baby's Birth Weight
Line 5: Baby's Birth Length
Line 6: Time of Birth
Line 7: Delivering Doctor's Name
Line 8: Name of Hospital
Line 9: Location of Birth

2. Open up a blank page in Microsoft Word.

3. Click on Insert.  Then, select Word Art.  Choose Word Art Style 1.  Type in the information from line 1 (Baby's First Name) and select the font that you would like to use (The font will stay the same for every line).  Right click the baby's name and select Format.  Select Layout.  Then, choose In Front of Text.  Stretch the width of the Word Art so that it reaches the edge of the right and left margin without going over it.

4. Repeat the Step #3 for Line 2. Drag Line 2 just underneath Line 1.   Continues these steps until you have completed all the lines.

5.  Choose a color scheme that will complement the color's in the baby's nursery.  Each line can be a different color or you can alternate the colors as I have done in my example.  To change the colors, right click the line that you wish to change, select Format Word Art, and Colors and Lines.  Click on the color box and choose the color you would like for the first line.  Then, go down to the section underneath the heading Line and select No Color.  Repeat theses steps for lines 2-9.

6. Now you need to adjust the height of each line.  You want to make sure that all of the lines together take up the entire page in height without going over.  You can do this, by making the more important lines bigger than the others.  For example, the baby's first name and birth date should be bigger than the other lines.

7. Once you have your poster the way you want it, save and print.  You can get a frame that fits your sheet of paper or, for added elegance, you can by a frame with matting to make your poster look even nicer.  If you would like your poster larger than an 8x10, save your document on a flash drive and have it printed at Kinko's or Office Max (or any other printing place near you).

I hope you enjoy making your Birth Announcement Poster.  If you do decide to make your own, please drop me a line and let me know how it comes out.
Peace & Love
