Owl Themed Nursery

Okay... So this is probably the biggest and most important art project that I've taken on to date. It's a mixture of interior design and a few simple do-it-yourself art projects. I am talking about decorating the nursery of my baby boy! Of course, he was born several months ago so I finished his nursery a little bit before his arrival. At first, the task seemed like a huge undertaking. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I started with one principle idea... I didn't want his room to be baby blue and brown like everyone else's. I wanted it to be dramatic and bold! Who says little girls are the only ones that can have bright colors? I first came up with a color scheme of turquoise, gray, and green. Those colors were inspired by the Laguna Bay Collection from Graco (which my son also has).
I began with the bedding and after weeks of searching, I finally found the perfect bold and vibrant bedding... The Owl Sky Crib Set by Dwell Studio. The price was a little high for my wallet so I googled the exact name of the bedding and found a reputable website selling the same bedding for $150 cheaper. I also leered the matching Owl Sky Changing Pad Cover and The Owl Stuffed Animal.
Since we stay in an apartment, I knew I couldn't paint the walls but I wanted my son to have something special. I measured the height of the wall and searched www.etsy.com to find wall decals that would take up the whole wall. DesignedDesigner made the Wild Birch Forest With Owls Decals. They were great and they arrived timely! I was able to customize the colors to match his room. However, I must warn you... You have to be very good at reading charts because it came in hundreds of little pieces, and you have to assemble it limb by limb.  It took my husband and I two days to get it all up, but once we finished it was amazing!
I found a mobile that coordinated with everything on www.etsy.com as well. There are a lot of really cute owl mobiles on the website but I went with the Custom Colored Owl Wonderful with Blooming Tree made by Gifts Divine. The mobile was adorable.
The "Hey Baby" banner came from the decorations at my baby shower. It was made by a relative who also has a shop on etsy.com so check her out as well! She makes custom banners and invitations.
The glider chair, ottoman, and throw pillow were purchased at Burlington Coat Factory. The crib and changing table were purchased at Target. They were from Biltmore Collection by Delta. The rug also came from Target as well.
The paintings were done by me. I bought 3 canvases, coordinating paints, and brushes from Hobby Lobby (my favorite store) and painted similar images on the canvases. I hope you guys like it!
I had so much trouble finding a matching lamp so I finally broke down and bought a floor lamp with a plain white shade from Wal-Mart. I purchased some turquoise fabric and gray ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I used some adhesive spray to glue the fabric to the shade and the ribbon to the fabric.
Creating this nursery for my "little man" was so much work, but it was a labor of love. I hope one day, he will grow up to realize all the love that went in to creating a special space that is colorful, unique, and just for him.

Peace & love
